Experience of pressure and the logic of unfreedom

Matria emerges from the Russian experience of unfreedom — a form of what, to varying degrees, takes place in many parts of the world.

It is an experience of prolonged pressure, the cultivation of fear, the normalization of sacrifice, the distortion of language, mobilization, cynicism, and resignation. In Russia, one can see with particular clarity how human life becomes a resource, how choice narrows into false dilemmas.

What happens in Russia quickly and harshly may unfold elsewhere more slowly and more softly — yet the logic remains the same.

Matria proposes recognizing a way out of a traumatic regime through a refusal of mobilization, cynicism, and participation in the economy of violence. Not struggle and not escape, but a return to the human scale of life.
